Sherlock Holmes is the main figure of the american TV series Elementary. He is a londonian-originated consulting detective living and working in America as well recovering drug addict, the son of businessman Morland Holmes and the younger brother of restaurant owner and consultant to MI6 Mycroft Holmes. Throughout the series, Sherlock battles his own personal demons and struggles with addiction. However, he finds support and guidance from his partner and apprentice, Joan Watson. Together, they form a unique and effective crime-solving team.

When living at London, Sherlock fell in love with a woman named Irene Adler, actually the criminal mastermind Jamie Moriarty in disguise, who manipulated him for prevent him to interfere further in her activities. Adler's "death" then drove him into drugs, and led him to leave London for New York, where he met his new sober companion engaged by his father, Joan Watson. Together, Joan and Sherlock discovered Adler's true identity and led to her arrest, confronted the consequences of Moriarty's arrest for the remains of his network, and confronted the millionaire Odin Reichenbach, which even led the detective to fake his death.
