Joan Watson is the deuteragonist of the american TV series Elementary. She is a former surgeon who left her profession after a devastating accident. Seeking a fresh start, she becomes a sober companion to help people struggling with addiction maintain their sobriety. Joan is assigned to Sherlock Holmes, a brilliant but troubled detective who is battling his own demons. Initially reluctant, Joan soon becomes intrigued by Sherlock's deductive abilities and unconventional approach to solving crimes.

As they work together, Joan proves to be an astute observer and a valuable asset to Sherlock's investigations. Over time, their relationship evolves into a partnership, where Joan becomes an apprentice to Sherlock.
