Martin Freeman is a british actor. He played John Watson in the BBC TV series Sherlock.

Biography[edit]

Martin John Christopher Freeman was born to Philomena and Geoffrey Freeman. He grew up in a Roman Catholic family and has four older siblings. Freeman attended Salesian School, a Roman Catholic comprehensive school in Chertsey, Surrey. His interest in acting developed at a young age, and he participated in school plays.

Martin Freeman's professional acting career began in the late 1990s. He made his first notable appearance in the television series This Life (1996-1997), where he played the role of Jamie. He gained recognition for his performance and continued to secure roles in various TV dramas.

Freeman's breakthrough came in 2001 when he was cast as Tim Canterbury in the original UK version of The Office, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. His portrayal of the endearing and relatable character earned him critical acclaim and established him as a talented actor in the industry.

Martin Freeman's film career gained momentum with roles in movies like Love Actually (2003), where he played John, a character dealing with unrequited love. He also appeared in Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007), both directed by Edgar Wright.
