John Watson is a fictional character, deuteragonist of american movies trilogy Sherlock Holmes. He was featured in Sherlock Holmes (2009), its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) and its upcoming threequel Sherlock Holmes 3. He is a doctor and former army doctor, the husband of Mary Morstan and the best friend and former flatmate of Sherlock Holmes.

As sidecick of Holmes, Watson helped him to fight cult leader and occultist Lord Henry Blackwood, also falling for the criminal' apparent death. After his real death by the intervention of Holmes, John helped him to fight the criminal mastermind James Moriarty, but also becoming the target of his threats, with his wife as collateral damage. In the end, he helped to foil Moriarty's plot at the Reichenbach conference by helping to expose and arrest the revolutionary René Heron, but was just in time to witness the sacrifice of his friend Holmes, who threw himself and Moriarty into the waterfalls surrounding the conference. Some time later, he seemed to realise that his friend might still be alive when he realised that his friend appeared to have gone to his flat to drop off a package, a respirator.
