The Scarlet Claw is a 1944 american movie. It is the eighth installment in the Sherlock Holmes film series produced by Universal Pictures and features Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as his sidekick, Dr. John H. Watson.

The movie is set in the small Canadian village of La Mort Rouge, known for its unique red mud. A series of brutal murders occur, with each victim found with their throats slashed. The villagers believe that a legendary monster, a phantom-like creature known as the "Screaming Skull", is responsible for the killings. Seeking assistance, they request Holmes and Watson's help. Sherlock Holmes arrives in La Mort Rouge and promptly dismisses the villagers' superstitions, believing a human culprit is behind the murders. As he investigates, Holmes soon discovers a web of deceit, greed, and revenge. The plot thickens when he uncovers a connection between the victims who were members of the Royal Canadian Occult Society. Holmes continues to unravel the mystery, using his deductive reasoning and keen observation skills to put together the pieces of this complex case. As the tension mounts, the identity of the killer becomes clearer, leading to a climactic confrontation in a lighthouse.
