Sydney Paget (1860-1908) was a British illustrator best known for his iconic illustrations of the stories featuring Sherlock Holmes written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Paget's illustrations helped to popularize the character of Sherlock Holmes and have become synonymous with the detective's image.

Sydney Paget created the first visual representation of Sherlock Holmes in 1891 when he was commissioned to illustrate "A Scandal in Bohemia" for the Strand Magazine. Paget's depiction of Holmes with a deerstalker hat and a magnifying glass became the definitive image of the character and has been widely replicated in various adaptations and parodies.

Paget went on to illustrate many more Sherlock Holmes stories for the Strand Magazine, capturing the essence of the detective's adventures with his distinctive style and attention to detail. His illustrations helped to bring the stories to life for readers and cemented the visual identity of Sherlock Holmes in popular culture.
