Sherlock Holmes was a notorious detective and public figure and the posthumous overarching protagonist of the French TV series Mademoiselle Holmes (2024).

Biography

Work and family

At some point of time, Sherlock Holmes became widely known as a private detective and public figure, and crossed path with the criminal James Moriarty, who became his archenemy. During his career, he notably deciphered the code of the dancing men, now engraved in a pendant bequeathed to his granddaughter. He also had a companion doctor, the Dr. Watson, and had a son, Georges, whom he neglected in favor of his investigations. Aditonally, he owned a chessboard engraved with his initials.

Legacy

His work as a master detective, and above all the publication of his adventures by his companion, the Dr. Watson, eventually led to his great popularity, although it's unknown whether this began during his lifetime or only after his death. His apartment at 221B Baker Street was turned into a museum for tourists to visit, the Sherlock Holmes Museum, with his famous deertsalker, cape Inverness and violin represented inside. A biopic about him was even being prepared by the famous actress Betty Sheraton, and his popularity has earned it many dedicated fan sites.

Personality

According to his son, he was a very absent father, obsessed only by his detective work. According to the decoration of his house and the description of his portrait, he was a pipe enthusiast and a violin player, as well a chess amator, as indicated by his possession of a chessboard engraved with his initials.

Trivia

• Given the Scottish tradition in which his son George was raised, it's highly likely that his son's mother was Scottish.
• Unlike his original counterpart, it would appear that he was not active towards the end of the nineteenth century, but rather in the early to mid-twentieth, as he was still working while his son Georges, aged over seventy in 2024 and therefore likely to have been born in the mid-twentieth century, was at the beginning of his life.
  • In this sense, he's closer to the incarnation of Basil Rathbone, also partly active in the mid-40s due to the need for war propaganda at the time.
• So far, he's one of the only versions of the character to have had biological children (the other being the version of the future 2024 series Sherlock & Daughter), and the only one to have actually died at the time of the story.
