"Good evening, Mrs Watson. I'm the other Holmes."
– Mycroft Holmes

Mycroft Holmes is a major character in the 2011 movie Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, the sequel to the 2009 movie Sherlock Holmes. He is Sherlock Holmes' eccentric and brilliant older brother. He holds a high position in the British government, often alluded to as a behind-the-scenes operator who deals with matters of state and diplomacy. His connections and intellect make him an invaluable ally to Sherlock, even though their relationship is tinged with playful rivalry.

Mycroft is shown to be quite at ease with authority and the inner workings of the political system, and he often acts as a bridge between Sherlock’s unorthodox methods and the needs of the government. His interactions with Sherlock highlight their sibling dynamic. Mycroft’s personality is more relaxed and genial compared to Sherlock’s intense and frenetic energy. This contrast is evident when they meet at a formal event, where Mycroft is calm, collected, and well-dressed, blending effortlessly into high society.

Abilities[edit]

  • Genius-level intelligence: Like his brother, Mycroft had a brilliant mind. His intelligence allowed him to work as a influent and knowledgable politician.
    • Master investigator: Much like his brother, Mycroft displayed impressively sharp observation sense. He was able to observe and deduce that his brother's bootmaker was suffering, that his chimney in Baker Street needed a sweep and that he recently acquired a new bow for his violin (actually the strings), and that the car in which he himself had arrived with the left wheel warped. He also knew that relations between France and Germany were at their worst, and that he would have to go to the Reichenbach Conference as soon as possible if the situation was not resolved quickly.
