Mr. Holmes, if it was the end of the world, if this was the very last night, would you have dinner with me?”
– Irene to Sherlock Holmes

Irene Adler is the main antagonist of the episode “A Scandal in Belgravia" of the British television series Sherlock, released on January, 2012. She is a dominatrix and blackmailer, also known for her ties with both criminal consultant Jim Moriarty and his nemesis Sherlock Holmes.

Adler come to do business with Jim Moriarty while he confronted Sherlock Holmes for the first time, by calling him in phone and convincing him to give up. The criminal then helped her to make good use of the data on her phone about Operation 007 and to manipulate the Holmes brothers, for which he drew no benefit other than that of sowing chaos. While her elaborated trickery nearly worked and she was about to meet her astronomical claims, Sherlock managed to deducing the password of her phone, leaving her without any protection. Months later, while she was nearly killed in Pakistan, she was saved in the last second by Sherlock and disappeared, only sending texts with Sherlock later.

“Oh, you're rather good.”
Sherlock Holmes to Irene
  • Intelligence: Irene Adler was a very intelligent woman, even earning the compliments of Sherlock Holmes on one occasion after successfully outwitting him, and finally his respect after her defeat and disappearance. She even passed very close to outsmarting him in the conclusion of her blackmail, failing only at the last minute after Sherlock deduced her feelings for him and, by extension, her phone password.
“I know what he likes.”
– Irene about one of her pawns
    • Master manipulator: Irene Adler was infamously known for her manipulation prowess, often using charms and wits for obtaining what she wants. Before and during Sherlock's intervention, she had already managed to manipulate a member of the British royal family, succeeding in blackmailing them, and to obtain information from a member of the Ministry of Defense by seducing him. By a patient and elaborated mind game with Sherlock and opportunistic alliance with his archenemy Jim Moriarty, she managed to get many informations about terrorist activities, very closely approaching to successfully blackmailling the entire British goverment to obtain the power and money she sought. She had also managed to pass herself off as dead until she revealed herself to John Watson, although it was unknown whether Sherlock and Mycroft had been deceived.
“Got it!”
– Irene Adler about to explaining the conclusion of a case
    • Expert investigator: While far to being as skilled or prolific as Sherlock, Irene Adler was a quite skilled investigator in her own right. She managed to solve the case of a man killed by a boomerang when the elements were presented to her, although far more slowy than Sherlock himself who resolved the case in mere seconds.
