Basil of Baker Street is a collection of children’s detective novels written by Eve Titus and illustrated by Paul Galdone. The books follow the adventures of Basil, a brilliant mouse detective who lives in the basement of Sherlock Holmes' residence at 221B Baker Street. Inspired by Holmes himself, Basil applies his keen intellect, sharp observation skills, and deductive reasoning to solve mysteries in the world of mice. Set in Victorian London, the series introduces readers to Basil’s loyal friend and biographer, Dr. David Q. Dawson, who plays a role similar to Dr. Watson in the Sherlock Holmes stories. Together, they face off against a range of adversaries, most notably the villainous Professor Ratigan, a criminal mastermind and Basil’s arch-nemesis.
